Last Monday, 8th June 2015, in the beautiful setting of the Cairo Marriott Hotel took place the launch event for the new Laboratoriorosso publication The legend of Tutankhamun, with texts by Zahi Hawass and photographs by Sandro Vannini.

The book represents the second work of the “Ancient Egypt Limited Edition” collection and, like the collection’s first volume A Secret Voyage, is a limited edition large-format photographic book.

The event was attended by approximately 500 people, including many prominent Egyptian cultural, artistic, political, and academic figures. Samir Sabry, a famous actor, singer and TV presenter, presented the event which included a performance by actress Samira Kirollos on the story of King Tut, a concert by singer Azza Balbaa and her band, and speeches by Chris Naunton, British Egyptologist and Director of The Egypt Exploration Society (EES), and the various sponsors. At the end of the presentation, the authors Zahi Hawass and Sandro Vannini gave their speeches and presented a copy of the book to Mrs Jihan Sadat, to whom the volume is dedicated.

The Cairo Marriott Hotel hosted and sponsored the event as part of Marriott’s global campaign #Activ8Egypt, which aims to support and revive tourism in Egypt by engaging key industry partners and government bodies with the goal of bringing the country to its premier destination of choice. The logo of the campaign features the word MISR, meaning Egypt in Arabic, where each letter represents words that can describe Egypt’s tourism offer: Magnificent, Inviting, Sensational and Rewarding.

Laboratoriorosso would like to express its most sincere gratitude to the Cairo Marriott Hotel for making the event part of this worthy global initiative, to the sponsors Join-T Energy Investments, PICO, Archaeological Paths, and The Shafik Gabr Foundation for their generous support for the publication, and to Vision Media for the support in managing the event. It would also like to thank Samir Sabry, Samira Kirollos, Chris Naunton, Azza Balbaa, and all those who attended the event, making it a very special evening.
